Session Configuration

This page details all the general assessment settings that can be configured within your Organisation. These settings define the default behavior automatically applied when a new assessment session is launched, but can still be adjusted on a case-by-case basis during each session preparation.

Managers and Owners of the Organisation access this administration interface from the Configuration page under the Sessions section of the navigation menu.

1. Linguistic Parameters

The default language defines the initial language in which the assessment session is prepared. This setting loads the question text and configures the platform's user interface language (such as navigation buttons, instructions, and waiting screens).

It is important to note that this setting serves only as a starting point. Each participant retains the ability to individually override the display language directly from the header of their voting screen. This allows them to read the statements and submit their answers in their preferred language, without affecting the display for other respondents in the session.

2. Visual and Aesthetic Indicators

The progress bar provides real-time visual tracking of the assessment session's progress. On the participant's screen, it appears as a continuous bar indicating the overall percentage of questions answered relative to the session total. On the presenter's screen, the progress is divided into separate segments corresponding to the question categories in the assessment (such as Objective, Process, or Practice). Each segment displays its own progress percentage to indicate the specific progress within each area.

The Elvy Companion is a purely visual and decorative animation integrated into the participants' voting interface. Its presence or absence does not alter the evaluation process in any way: whether Elvy is visible or hidden, the questions asked and the accompanying text remain exactly the same.

The following behavior applies to these two visual elements: Interaction with Simple Mode: The progress bar and the Elvy Companion are automatically disabled and hidden when Simple Mode is active.

3. Time Management and Timer

The timer serves as a visual time indicator on the screen to help participants gauge their thinking time or to encourage the group not to dwell too long on a specific question. The timer automatically resets at the beginning of each new question. Furthermore, the timer's complete elapses does not cause any blocking: even when the timer expires, the questions are not locked, and participants can continue to vote or change their choices freely.

When the timer is activated, two countdown directions can be configured: ascending mode, which works like a simple stopwatch starting from zero, and descending mode, which takes the form of a countdown based on a reference duration defined in seconds.

If the descending mode is selected, it is possible to enable the custom timer option per question to assign different thinking times depending on the complexity of the questions. Otherwise, the system applies the default duration (for example, 300 seconds) uniformly to the entire questionnaire.

The following behavior applies to the timer: Interaction with Simple Mode: All timer features (visuals, stopwatches or alerts) are automatically disabled and hidden when Simple Mode is active.

4. Display Order and Voting Flow

The order of display determines how the self-assessment methodology statements and answer choices are presented to participants during the different voting phases.

The Statement First (statement_first) option displays the contextual statement and the three answer choices (A, B, C) simultaneously in the first phase. This configuration allows respondents to become familiar with the methodological framework and vote immediately. Once the facilitator launches the second phase of the question (the discussion phase), participants have the opportunity to modify their initial vote and enter an explanation to justify the change.

The Question First (prompt_first) option significantly alters this flow. In the first phase, it presents only the question or direct instruction, while the three answer choices remain hidden. This configuration is designed to encourage open discussion and alignment within the group before revealing the answer choices. The contextual statement and answer options are only displayed later (in the second phase) to allow participants to submit their choices. Due to this sequential approach, participants vote only once at the time of the reveal and cannot change their answer afterward.

5. Accessibility and Simple Mode

Simple Mode is a major accessibility option that streamlines the user interface to reduce the cognitive load on respondents.

Its activation produces the following effects:

  • Forced deactivation: The progress bar, the Elvy Companion and the timer are automatically deactivated and hidden.
  • Interface simplification: Removes animations and superfluous visual elements to refocus the experience on reading the questions.
  • Preference memory: The system remembers the initial state of your options (progress bar, Elvy Companion, timer). As soon as Simple Mode is deactivated, these settings instantly revert to their original configuration.
